The system of education has been evolving over the last decade with an acceleration brought on by a world-wide pandemic. With national headlines asserting controversial curriculum, a focus on mental health issues due to Covid-19 and stresses related to “High Stakes” testing with high school and college students, as well as reduced levels of “Coping Mechanisms and Skills”, some of which can be unintentionally fostered in a traditional approaches to “earning” grades, Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School is once again ahead of the curve regarding its Educational Project and our culture of learning. We know that change and the perception of change is difficult, however, with technological advances, access to information and real-time adaptive learning that can take place, we are doing all we can to remain in front of the curve and provide our students with relevant tools to succeed in the world that they will certainly continue to encounter as they progress through SJDL , high school and career.
Through Learning Goals and Success Criteria students are able to identify what and how they can learn and master skills, not based on compliance of simplyPublish doing the work and turning it in or short-term memorization of facts, but rather, applying Learning Goals to ever increasing depth of knowledge prompts and questions throughout the school year. This establishes the framework necessary to continued learning, building stronger and stronger mastery of priority Learning Goals that will be leveraged in future grade levels.
