Advent
Heavenly Father,
As we begin this Advent season, we open our hearts to You in hope and anticipation.
Help us to prepare the way for Your Son, Jesus Christ, in our lives and in our world.
May we be guided by Your light in the darkness,
And may our hearts be filled with the joy of Your promise of salvation.
Grant us patience in our waiting,
And deepen our faith as we journey together towards the celebration of His birth.
Come, Lord Jesus,
Be our Emmanuel—God with us—
Now and forever.
Amen.

Announcements
The First Sunday of Advent - HOPE!
This day marks the beginning of the liturgical season of Advent, a time of preparation and expectation for the coming of Christ. The focus is on the promise of Christ's return and the fulfillment of God's plan for salvation.
In the readings and prayers for this Sunday, the Church calls us to stay awake and be watchful, cultivating a spirit of anticipation and readiness. The lighting of the first candle on the Advent wreath, often called the "Prophet's Candle," symbolizes hope and God's faithfulness in fulfilling His promises.
Begin your Advent journey by blessing your Advent wreath. Light the first violet candle and sing “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”
As we approach Christmas break and the joyful celebrations of the season, it's essential to stay focused on our routines and academics. This time of year is filled with anticipation and excitement, but maintaining routines helps ensure that we are well-prepared for the new year. Balancing festive activities with our responsibilities not only fosters personal growth but also honors the spirit of Advent—a time of preparation and reflection. Let us keep our sights on our mission while enjoying the blessings of the coming Christmas season!
Moving Forward
At Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School, we are transitioning away from traditional parent-teacher conferences to better align with our mission of fostering meaningful, ongoing collaboration between parents, students, and educators. Traditional one-day conferences occurred infrequently and did not provide the timely feedback families needed to support their child’s growth. Additionally, the brief nature of these meetings limited opportunities for deep, personalized conversations about a student’s progress.
To address these challenges, we are embracing the dynamic communication foundations that the school has in place. Digital platforms, such as our Learning Management System, Otus, STAR Benchmark Assessments and SELOnline, allow parents to track their child’s academic and overall emotional intelligence (EQ) growth in real time, providing regular updates that reduce the need for in-person meetings. The use of technology also allows us to share detailed reports and data dashboards, ensuring parents remain informed and engaged without the need for formal conferences.
We are also utilizing student-generated digital portfolios with teacher involvement. These digital portfolios, accessible in Otus, allow students, teachers, and parents to track progress across multiple subjects and skills, showcasing both achievements and improvements. By curating their own work and documenting progress, students develop a deeper understanding of their academic strengths, areas for growth, and the steps needed to achieve their goals. This process promotes critical thinking, self-assessment, and goal-setting skills, empowering students to take a more active role in their education.
In addition, our goal is to provide a holistic view of each child’s development. Beyond academics, we prioritize social-emotional learning, behavior, and individual needs, which are better addressed through ongoing, personalized communication, both directly with students and with parents. Students participate in Social Emotional Learning Assessments twice a year to help measure individual, group, and school responses regarding aspects of a "Sense of Safety," "Sense of Belonging," and "Instructional Support." This data is vital to fulfilling our mission and serving our students effectively.
By offering continuous and flexible communication methods, we aim to better meet the needs of our school community. We encourage you to schedule a time that is convenient for both you and your child’s teacher(s) if there are any specific points you would like clarified in person. We also encourage you to consider meeting with your child’s teacher if they reach out to you with some specific concerns or to share plans that will maximize your child’s growth throughout the year.
Thank you and we look forward to our continued partnership in educating your child In Life and For Life!

Important Message
Dear Parents,
This is to inform you that due to Google’s new licensing policies, parent email accounts under the @sjdlschool.com domain will no longer be accessible as of January 1, 2025.
We wanted to inform you so that you have time to back up any important emails or documents you may need from your account before this date. After January 1, the accounts will be deactivated due to this new policy and you will no longer have access to them. The school has not generated any new @sjdlschool.com email accounts for parents since 2019, however, there are still some legacy accounts that are active.
The school will continue to use the parent’s email address entered in the FACTS Family Portal during the registration process for communication purposes. Please ensure that you change your account email address in the FACTS Family Portal to a personal email address prior to January 1, 2025, to ensure that you do not have any interruptions to the school’s communications.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we adapt to Google domain licensing changes.
